Home Leave Transportation & Schedule

All breaks begin after the last class or work assignment has been completed. Students traveling long distances or using public transportation may be allowed a reasonable early departure. 

The dorms are closed during each homeleave. The dorms will close two hours after the end of the last class and opens again at 5:00 pm the day prior to classes beginning. Dorm students should arrive back to the dorm between 5:00 pm and 9:00 pm on the day before classes begin.

On the day that the home leave begins and ends, complementary transportation is provided to and from the Orlando International Airport, the Greyhound bus station, the Amtrak station in Winter Park, and the Avon Park SDA Church (see below). Transportation that is needed outside of the regularly scheduled days and times cost $50 per trip to the airport, and $25 per trip to the bus or train station (if we can find a staff member able to drive).

Arrangements for transportation need to be made with your dean no later than three days prior to the beginning of home leave.

• Airport, Bus Station, and Train Station: We usually make two trips (one late morning and one in the afternoon) to the airport, bus station and the train station (if they are needed). There is a special form that needs to be filled out which is available from the dean.

• Avon Park SDA Church: On the day of home leave, this trip will usually leave about 15 minutes following the end of the last class. They will arrive at the Denny's Restaurant Parking lot one hour later (44111 S US 27, Davenport, FL 33837 - located just North of Interstate 4, at Exit 55), and at the Avon Park SDA Church in another hour (1410 W Avon Blvd., Avon Park, FL 33825). For the return trip, they will leave the Avon Park SDA Church around 5:00 pm and the Denny's Parking Lot between 6:00 & 6:15 pm.
