Forest Lake Academy Parents' Update

 

 Monday, October 1, 2007 

Welcome to the FLA Parents' Weekly Update. One of the Parents' Organization's goals for this year is to assist the school in facilitating greater communication between the school and the parents. As information is passed on to us, we will pass it on to you. We will also be sending you a copy of the Panther Pause, which is the weekly newsletter sent home with the students on Fridays.

Student Association:

The Hillbilly Harvest Social is this coming Saturday night, October 6, from 8:30 to 11:00. Encourage your students to attend and remind them to participate in:

  • The costume contest
  • The bake-off contest
  • The pumpkin carving contest

There will be lots of “old-fashioned” country fair games, food, and fun for all!

Prayer Power: 

We would like to start a "Parents Praying Purposefully" group that would meet every week. More information will be coming soon!

Prayer focus this week: Freshman and Junior Classes-- Remember them in your daily prayers especially this week while they are testing.

Class updates; 

Class of 2008:

The seniors are home from Senior Outbreak. They had a wonderful time. The plans for the class play are going strong. The cast has been chosen, and rehearsals are continuing this week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 6:30.  This year's play is Peter Pan and the word is out that it will be a play that you won't want to miss. Look for upcoming ticket information around the end of October.

Class of 2009:

Parents continue collecting items for the garage sale that the juniors will be having on November 4 at the same time as their car wash. Testing for juniors is on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at 12:50. There will be no afternoon classes for them on these days and it is suggested that they bring a calculator with them. Contact Carolyn Jensen or Hector Hernandez for more information at the school: 407-862-8411.

Class of 2010:

The sophomores are selling delicious Michigan Apples this month as a fundraiser. The due date for all orders is Monday, October 8. If each student sells 10 boxes, they will raise $10,000! The apples are very good and make great apple pies and applesauce. Class of 2011:

Testing for freshmen is on Monday, Tuesday, and Friday at 7:50. There will be no morning classes for them on these days and it is suggested that they bring a calculator with them. Contact Carolyn Jensen or Hector Hernandez for more information at the school: 407-862-8411.

  • October 4-6: Spiritual Emphasis Weekend has been postponed to November 8-10
  • October 6: SA Party on the field: “Hillbilly Harvest”  
  • October 7: SAT Testing
  • October 11-14 High School Bible Retreat NOTE: Classes are excused on Friday for students who will be attending this retreat, but they must bring in a note signed by a parent in order to return to classes on Monday, and they will be responsible for making-up missed class work. See the Attendance Policies sheet that was sent home at the beginning of the year.
  • October 12: Photo Retakes
  • October 12: End of first Quarter

Athletics: 

The fall Athletic season is rolling along......Come out and support these athletes!!!....Parents, you are their biggest cheer leaders!!!

  •             Thursday, Oct. 4, 6:00 at Mr. Dora Bible School

  •             Wednesday, Oct. 10 Team leaves for Classic Tournament at Walla Walla College

Golf:

  •             Tuesday, Oct. 2, 4:00 vs. Masters Academy at Rock Springs Run      
  •             Thursday, Oct. 4, 4:00 vs. Crooms Academy at Mayfair Country Club
  •             Tuesday, Oct. 8, 4:00 vs. Central Florida Christian at Forest Lake Golf Club

Girls' Basketball:

  •             Conditioning has begun. Games begin November 13

Fundraising: 

The Parents' Organization has several ways to raise money to support the programs on campus. The first is through using your Target Visa and designating Forest Lake Academy as your school to receive a percentage of every purchase you make with the card. Go on line to Target.com to enroll. This is a great way to give to the school. The second way is to sign up for Good Search which is a search engine like Google. Every time you use Good Search to look up something on the internet, a few pennies get donated to the school. Good Shop is another source fundraising. Every time you shop through Good Shop on line, a percentage is given to the school. These are places you are already shopping at. Give these a try and help us raise money to support the school.
