Remind your students to bring money to purchase goodies from their classes for fundraisers.
Parents are welcome to come out and cheer for their students and the classes!
Prayer Power:
Laura Luchian has enthusiastically offered to lead a prayer group for FLA parents. The first parents’ prayer meeting will be on Monday, November 5 at 8:15. We will meet in the Alumni House which is across the street from the new Dorm. There is a sign outside. Please come prepared to focus on praying for FLA. For more information contact Laura Luchian at laurajluchian@yahoo.com .
Prayer focus this week: Teaching Staff, particularly your individual student’s teachers. Lift them up as they represent a Christian role model to our youth. Pray that they will make a positive impact on each student and will lead each one to a clearer understanding of the material they are teaching.
Class updates;
Class of 2008:
The plans for the class play are going strong. The cast has been chosen, and rehearsals are continuing this week on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 6:30. This year's play is Peter Pan and the word is out that it will be a play that you won't want to miss. Look for upcoming ticket information around the end of October.
Seniors need to make sure that their Senior Class Trip payments are up to date. Contact Ira Mills with any questions at Millsi@forestlake.org .
Class of 2009:
The junior class will be holding a fundraising event on November 4, 2007, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. This fundraiser will include a yard sale, car wash and bake sale. They are in need of donations for the yard sale portion of this event. We will be accepting donations Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from 5-7 p.m. at the FLA bus barn on campus until the event. Follow the posted signs to the bus barn. If you need more info, E-mail Melodie Smith at maxmeldon1@earthlink.net or Susan Becker at beckers@forestlake.org.
The Next Junior Parent Class Meeting is November 6, at 6:30 p.m. at Jason’s Deli.
Every year the juniors take the PSAT, which is a practice test for the SAT that they will take later this year or next year as a college entrance test. Even though this test is preparation for the SAT, it benefits students in the following ways:
· assesses the student’s critical reading, mathematical reasoning, and writing skills.
· gives specific suggestions on how to improve academic skills.
· prepares for the SAT with a free personalized study plan.
· enters students into National Merit Scholarship Corporation competitions for recognition and scholarships.
· requests free information from colleges and universities.
· uses My College QuickStart to access free resources and information about college and career planning.
This year, the PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, October 17, to all juniors at Forest Lake Academy. It will start at 1:00 pm and will end sometime between 4:00 and 5:00 pm. As usual, the juniors will report to the classroom assigned to their Bible Doctrines section. Signs are posted all over campus. Juniors will not attend their afternoon classes; instead, they will take the test, and attendance will be taken. They must attend morning classes as announced by their individual teachers.
This is a national test date, and it is only offered once a year. If a student misses it, there are no make up dates, and all benefits will be forfeited. It is suggested that they bring a calculator since they may use it for the math test.Direct all questions to Hector Hernandez, Guidance Counselor or Carolyn Jensen, Academic Dean.
Class of 2010:
The apples have been ordered and will arrive October 23-24, just in time to take home for fall break. Thank you to all of the sophomores who participated.
Class of 2011:
Another freshman lock-in is being planned. Watch for upcoming details. Also, watch for a date for another freshman parent meeting to happen in the next few weeks.
From the Nurse:
Some students still need to turn some paper work in to the nurse. Parents, please send them in as soon as possible. Items include immunizations, physical, medical consent, etc.
Community Service:
Ten hours of community service each semester attended at FLA or FLA/AE21 is required for graduation.
Eighty hours are required for 4-year seniors to graduate.
Students not attending FLA all 4 years applying for Bright Futures Scholarships must have 75 hours in order to qualify.
Hours accumulate each semester, but can transfer over to the next semester.
Report forms are available in the Registrar’s Office or on the FLA website. Click on “On Campus”, “Academics”, and “Registrar’s Office”.
Community service projects are the students’ responsibility to arrange. Opportunities are posted on campus from time to time in the “Panther Pause” or by announcements.

Did You Know?
Birthdays are celebrated in style once a month in the girl’s dorm. Last month they had a “beach” themed party with Subway Sandwiches served in beach buckets and lots of beach blanket fun in the lobby. The deans also send each girl an e-card on their birthday to help them celebrate their special day. Deans Ingersoll and Carlos try to make the dorm a nice home away from home….Thank you to you both!
Reminder about the School Entrance:
Due to safety concerns with the dorm construction project, effective immediately the entrance to our campus by the dorm construction will be closed during work times - roughly 6:00 am until 4:00 pm. Please plan to enter and leave the campus at the stop light or through the parking lot of the Forest Lake Church. This will remain in effect until the construction project is completed.
Fundraising:
The Parents' Organization has several ways to raise money to support the programs on campus. The first is through using your Target Visa and designating Forest Lake Academy as your school to receive a percentage of every purchase you make with the card. Go on line to Target.com to enroll. This is a great way to give to the school. The second way is to sign up for Good Search which is a search engine like Google. Every time you use Good Search to look up something on the internet, a few pennies get donated to the school. Good Shop is another source fundraising. Every time you shop through Good Shop on line, a percentage is given to the school. These are places you are already shopping at. Give these a try and help us raise money to support the school.
Check out the Parent Organization Web page on the Academy Web site. It is a work in progress so keep checking to see updates.
