Forest Lake Academy Parents' Update

Monday, September 24-2007

Welcome to the FLA Parents' Weekly Update. One of the Parents' Organization's goals for this year is to assist the school in facilitating greater communication between the school and the parents. As information is passed on to us, we will pass it on to you. We will also be sending you a copy of the Panther Pause, which is the weekly newsletter sent home with the students on Fridays.

 Fundraising:

The Parents' Organization has several ways to raise money to support the programs on campus. The first is through using your Target Visa and designating Forest Lake Academy as your school to receive a percentage of every purchase you make with the card. Go on line to Target.com to enroll. This is a great way to give to the school. The second way is to sign up for Good Search which is a search engine like Google. Every time you use Good Search to look up something on the internet, a few pennies get donated to the school. Good Shop is another source fundraising. Every time you shop through Good Shop on line, a percentage is given to the school. These are places you are already shopping at. Give these a try and help us raise money to support the school.

Prayer Power:

We would like to start a "Parents Praying Purposefully" group that would meet every week. More information will be coming soon!

Prayer focus this week: Senior class-- Remember them in your daily prayers especially this week.

Student Association:

The SA has put on some fantastic socials during the first part of the year. The next big social will be on October 6. It is the Hobo Harvest. Encourage your students to attend as it will be a highlight of the fall. Thank you to all who have volunteered to help. Jennifer Green will be in contact with you to let you know what the needs are.

Class updates;

Class of 2008:

The seniors are away for Senior Outbreak this week. They will be viewing Southern Adventist University as well as connecting with each other while experiences some fun activities. Remember to pray for them this week. The plans for the class play are going strong. The cast has been chosen, and as soon as the seniors return home, rehearsals will begin for the big event. This year's play is Peter Pan and the word is out that it will be a play that you won't want to miss.

Class of 2009:

Parents begin collecting items for the garage sale that the juniors will be having on November 4 at the same time as their car wash. Contact Gregg Cain or Melodie Smith for more information.

Class of 2010:

The sophomores are selling delicious Michigan Apples this month as a fundraiser. They went home with marketing packets last week. If each student sells 10 boxes, they will raise $10,000! The apples are very good and make great apple pies and applesauce. For more information contact Tamara Ritterskamp or Renee Brownlow. The PLAN test is on Thursday, Sept. 27 from 1:00 until 5:00. A good breakfast and a good night sleep is a good idea.

Class of 2011:

Although the class lock-in was cancelled, they will reschedule. Tuesday, Sept. 25, is the EXPLORE Test. Make sure your student has eaten a good breakfast and gets a good night sleep.

NOTE: Be sure to ask your student to see the latest Paw Print (the newsletter put out each month by FLA students) You will be impressed!
