CAMPUS CLOSURE INFORMATION
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Forest Lake Education Center and Forest Lake Academy have decided to close our campuses. No students or families are allowed on campus from now until Friday, May 1, 2020 when school is currently scheduled to resume. As this is a fluid situation, that time frame may be extended in the future. Please continue to check your emails and follow us on our media platforms for changes. The decision to postpone or cancel events is not an easy one, especially when countless individuals worked hard to plan them and other countless individuals were looking forward to attending them. However, with the health and safety of our students and our community in mind, we have determined the following changes are necessary.
Academics
- FLEC Student grades will be frozen at their current percentage for the quarter that ends April 15. This means that student grades may go up but will not go down. FLA's 3rd quarter ended on March 6. Any grades entered during this period will be attributed to 4th quarter.
- Teachers will be reviewing lesson plans and standards taught for the rest of the year to prioritize learning needs for this the remainder of the school year.
- Teachers will be sending out an email to all families by Wednesday evening, March 18, on the academic plan for their classes until April 15. In this email, teachers will be letting families know a block of time each day that the teacher will be available to communicate with the family and student.
- Starting Thursday, March 19, students will have the opportunity to begin working on the distance education set forth by their teacher(s).
- If students don't have access to internet they can call 1.844.488.8398 for free internet from Spectrum during this time.
- Schools will resume classroom instruction on Friday, May 1, 2020.
Calendar Changes
Note, all activities beyond basic classroom instruction planned by Forest Lake Education Center and Forest Lake Academy or taking part on their campuses have been canceled
from now until Monday, May 1. Both schools are cancelling Parent/Teacher Conferences. Teachers will be contacting you if there is an academic or behavioral concern. If you are not contacted by your child's teacher but have questions, please email that teacher.
Forest Lake Education Center
The following activities planned by FLEC or on FLEC campus are canceled with no plans to reschedule this year:
- Robotics competitions—regional and national
- Festival of the Arts
- Outdoor Education
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
- March School Board meeting (Reports to be emailed)
The following activities planned by FLEC or on FLEC campus are canceled from their original dates. The school will be looking for alternate dates and/or locations for these events. There is no guarantee that these events can or will be able to be rescheduled:
- Dads and Donuts
- NJHS Induction Ceremony
- Mother/Son Scavenger Hunt
- "Next" Vespers
- Spring Pictures
- Scholastic Book Fair
- Any field trips until May 1
- 8th Grade Banquet
- Florida Christian Soccer League
- All chapels and Weeks of Prayer are canceled for face to face meetings, however they will be conducted via remote access media platforms.
Forest Lake Academy
The following activities planned by FLA or on FLA campus are canceled with no plans to reschedule this year:
- Alumni golf tournament and alumni weekend
- Junior history tour
- Robotics-regional and national
- Festival of the Arts
- Risen Easter Service
- School drama play
- Parent/Teacher Conferences
The following activities planned by FLA or on FLA campus are canceled from their original dates. The school will be looking for alternate dates and/or locations for these events. There is no guarantee that these events can or will be able to be rescheduled:
- All sporting activities--volleyball
- Junior/Senior Banquet
- Any field trips until May 1
- Senior class trip
- ACT & SAT Testing
- All chapels and Weeks of Prayer are canceled for face to face meetings, however they will be conducted via remote access media platforms should school resume.
